(Matthew 13:44)”The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

Greetings Church! Jesus often described the Kingdom of God in surprising ways. In this brief parable, He speaks of a hidden treasure so valuable that a man gladly gives up everything he owns to obtain it. Notice that the man doesn’t see his sacrifice as a loss. He sees it as an investment because he has discovered something worth far more than what he leaves behind.

As a congregation, we stand at moments when God calls us to make important decisions. Sometimes those decisions involve finances, buildings, ministries, leadership, or new ways of reaching our community. At first, these choices can feel risky because they require us to let go of what is familiar. Yet faith has never been about preserving the status quo it has always been about following where Christ leads.

Every generation of believers has faced moments like these. The early church left the safety of the upper room to proclaim the gospel to the world. Abraham left his homeland without knowing where God was leading. Peter stepped out of the boat onto uncertain waters. Again and again, God revealed that His greatest blessings were found on the other side of faithful obedience.

What if the “hidden treasure” God has prepared for our church is not buried in our past, but waiting in our future?

Perhaps the treasure is a family who will discover Christ because we dared to start a new ministry. Perhaps it is a child who will learn they are deeply loved by God. Perhaps it is a young adult finding purpose, a senior finding renewed community, or a neighbor discovering hope through the compassion of this congregation.

Treasure rarely reveals itself without effort. It requires vision to see what others overlook and faith to pursue what God has promised. That means there are times when we must make bold decisions not because change is easy, but because the mission of Jesus is too important to remain comfortable.

Our calling has never been simply to maintain a building. Our calling is to build God’s Kingdom. Buildings, budgets, committees, and traditions are valuable only as they help us fulfill that mission. When we keep our eyes fixed on Christ’s purpose, we discover that every faithful sacrifice becomes an opportunity for Kingdom growth.

As we continue discerning the future together, let us ask not, “What are we giving up?” but rather, “What treasure is God inviting us to discover?”

May we be a church that recognizes the priceless value of God’s Kingdom and responds with joyful faith. Let us move forward together with courage, trusting that the One who has led us this far is already preparing the blessings that lie ahead.

The greatest treasures are often hidden until faith is willing to seek them.
