Coronavirus, Covid-19, has come and obviously we are all adjusting to a great deal of changes. We are practicing appropriate safety protocols and we hope and pray not only that everyone stays healthy and no one gets sick, but also hopeful that everything will go back to ‘normal.’
I’m not sure if that will be possible. We may be at a place where we discover a ‘new’ normal. We who have lived through hurricanes know that eventually electricity is restored, gas stations get gas, stores are restocked, clean-up is finished, our jobs continue, ‘life’ resumes.
But Covid-19 is a different kind of storm and the impact is on a much larger scale for a much longer duration. The entire planet is affected. Every person in every country has been impacted and their routine has been altered.
Soon we will be celebrating Easter. That’s right, Easter has NOT been cancelled. Churches may be closed, but Easter will still happen. Beaches may be closed, but sunrises continue.
The resurrection of Jesus impacted every person on the entire planet for every generation. God’s grace has been given to all, it is the antidote to sin, it is the vaccine for fear, it is the victory that reminds us that nothing can separate us from the love of God.
I know you know these truths but I want to encourage you to share these truths with others. Just as we would tell friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, or even strangers, ‘Hey, this store has unlimited supplies of toilet paper, sanitation wipes, and meat’ so we should also tell people that there is an abundant supply of God’s love and grace. This is the Good News we can share that brings hope and new life.
Easter is not a secret and it reminds us that God has given us a ‘new’ normal, a relationship not based on our goodness, but based and centered on God’s love and grace. The Good News is that the impact of Easter ushers in new life for us all, a life filled with new possibilities, with hope, grace, and love for all, and that’s a ‘new’ normal we can all embrace.
