My article this month is in two parts.
- By now you have seen for yourselves the devastation brought about by Hurricane Harvey. As you offer your prayers, you may also decide to
give an over and above monetary donation to help with the relief efforts. I encourage you to do so by making out your check to the church and marking it ‘Week of Compassion.’ Frankly, we do a much
better job of getting more of your dollar to those who need help than the other charities. As I shared with you last Sunday, because of your gifts to Week of Compassion back in February, funds were already available to help meet the needs of the people, but clearly much more is going to be needed.
- By now you may have heard that the church Board has hired Happy Kinnear to work part time (about 10 hours a week) for 9 months, at which time she (and the children) will move to Orlando to join Kent who is already living and working there. Happy has an article in this newsletter explaining some of her responsibilities and we are very excited to have her guidance as she leads and helps us in our mission and ministries
In part one we are reminded that through sharing gifts we participate with God in being a blessing to others; in part two we are reminded of ways in which we receive blessings from God, both parts are important in leading a balanced Christian life. Giving and receiving keeps us fresh in the Spirit and aware of God’s presence. Whether we see a need or hear a call, God’s grace is shared through our response.
God Bless
